PositivCares was created for one primary purpose: to offer our viewers an opportunity and gateway to do something positive, to give back. The charities you see have been carefully selected for their commendable work and the extraordinary difference they make in the lives of countless others. PositivCares is honored to spotlight and support these noteworthy organizations. Along with your help, we know we can be positive partners for a world in need of care.

We are pleased to partner with our friends, Crossroads for Women this month for our Grace. & Grit movie lineup.

The Mission:

The mission of Crossroads for Women is to provide comprehensive, integrated services to empower women emerging from incarceration to achieve safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives in the community, for themselves and their children.

Background:

For 25 years, Crossroads for Women (CRFW) has worked with women in New Mexico to improve   their lives, build community, and live independently. The women served by CRFW are justice-involved, have cooccurring mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, and are either homeless or precariously housed. Based on these criteria client qualifications for assistance programs such as     SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid, all clients served by the organization are categorized as low-income. Since its founding, CRFW has grown from a single case manager working out of the trunk of her car to a thriving organization that served over 650 women last year.

Programming at CRFW provides services that first meet the basic needs of women who often have few possessions after emerging from incarceration. Many are disconnected from family and their community, and mothers often do not have custody of their children. CRFW provides clients with essential items such as clothing, hygiene items, and home goods, to build stability so that they can focus on recovery. CRFW provides vocational services as part of its model that promotes financial literacy, GED classes, resume building, job interview skills, and guidance in finding employment. The vocational services women at CRFW receive are crucial in their transition to stability and independent living.

CRFW provides family services to clients with children, focusing on reunification between mothers and their children, rebuilding relationships damaged by incarceration and substance abuse, and navigating healthy boundaries between mother and child.
